About the Role
- The Lighting Design Engineer is a creative engineer responsible for conceptualizing and designing lighting solutions that enhance the aesthetic appeal and functionality of interior spaces. This role will involve working on a wide range of projects within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry, including both new builds and renovations of existing structures. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of lighting technologies, design principles, and how lighting can contribute to the overall atmosphere and experience of a space.
What you will be doing
- Collaborate with clients, architects, and engineers to understand project goals, space usage, and desired outcomes, offering creative lighting design ideas and solutions tailored to the project.
- Develop innovative lighting solutions that elevate the ambiance of interior spaces, aligning with the architectural vision while meeting functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Design lighting systems that optimize the use of space, enhancing both visual comfort and functionality in residential, commercial, and public sector environments.
- Incorporate energy-efficient solutions into designs, considering sustainability, energy usage, and lighting control systems.
- Oversee multiple projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with budget and design expectations.
- Keep up-to-date with emerging trends, technologies, and innovations in lighting design, incorporating best practices into your work.
- Participate in site visits to assess spaces and assist with the installation and commissioning of lighting systems, ensuring designs are executed as intended.
- Provide detailed lighting design, including light fittings, fixtures, controls, and specifications, ensuring compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and safety codes.
- Prepare detailed lighting design drawings, specifications, and calculations for client approval, tendering, and contractor execution.
- Work closely with architects, interior designers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders to integrate lighting designs seamlessly within the overall architectural and engineering plans.
Required Experience
- Over 5 years of experience in interior lighting design, preferably within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry.
- Experience in designing lighting for high-end residential, hospitality, retail, or commercial spaces.
- Experience of site visits and project coordination for clients.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Lighting Design, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
Certifications & Memberships
- Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) membership should be realistically achievable within the probation period.
- Additional training courses, professional and personal development with membership to professional groups, societies or institutes, desired.
- Project management qualifications is an advantage.
Essential Skills
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and its integration into lighting design workflows.
- Strong knowledge of lighting technologies, including LEDs, smart lighting, and control systems.
- Proficient in lighting design software such as DIALux, Relux, or similar tools.
- A strong understanding of lighting codes, standards, and regulations applicable in the Middle East region.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and external stakeholders.
- Creative vision with the ability to balance technical requirements and aesthetic design.
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy-efficient solutions in lighting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and time management.
- Excellent English language in speaking and writing, Arabic is an advantage.
