We assist national governments, international organisations, and private sector companies in delivering successful and local solutions with global expertise. Founded in 1968 in Kuwait City, we build on our fifty-five-year legacy by continuing to contribute positively and ethically to the development and shaping of our societies. As one of the region’s largest privately owned design and engineering consultancies, we currently employ more than 750 professionals and operate internationally in the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.

About the Role

  • The Senior Mechanical Engineer Wet Utilities and Pump Stations is responsible for leading and overseeing the mechanical design of pressurized water utility systems and pump stations for large-scale infrastructure projects. This role involves the end-to-end design and implementation of pressurized network systems, including potable water distribution, firefighting, and irrigation networks, as well as pumping station design and operation.
  • The engineer ensures efficient and reliable system performance by developing complete mechanical layouts and performing detailed hydraulic calculations for pipe networks and pump sizing. In this position, the engineer will coordinate closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs with civil, electrical, and instrumentation works, ensuring a fully integrated solution for projects.
  • The Senior Mechanical Engineer also enforces compliance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NFPA for fire protection systems and local Gulf regulations) and provides technical support through construction, commissioning, and handover phases of the project. Proficiency in design software (such as Revit MEP and AutoCAD) is leveraged for detailed design coordination and preparation of construction documentation. The role demands strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication to successfully deliver complex wet infrastructure projects in the Kuwait/GCC region.

What you will be doing

  • In a senior capacity, provide guidance and mentorship to junior mechanical engineers and CAD technicians. Lead by example in following best practices and company procedures, and contribute expert advice to the project team.
  • Lead the mechanical design of wet utility systems and pumping stations for potable water, firefighting, irrigation, and related services. This includes developing P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and pipe network designs for pressurized systems.
  • Perform advanced hydraulic analyses for pump station and network design, including calculating system curves, friction losses, and Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH). Select valves and size pumps (centrifugal, split-case, submersible, vertical turbine, etc.)
  • Prepare and review comprehensive engineering documents including BOQs, equipment schedules, technical specifications, and detailed shop drawings for mechanical systems. Develop construction drawings and layout plans using Revit MEP and AutoCAD.
  • Provide technical support during procurement, installation, and commissioning phases. Review and approve mechanical material submittals, vendor data sheets, and shop drawings for pumps and associated equipment.
  • Collaborate closely with civil, electrical, and instrumentation engineers to coordinate interfaces and integrate the mechanical design with other disciplines
  • Assist in troubleshooting during construction, respond to RFIs, and support testing & commissioning activities to achieve successful project delivery and client handover.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary design reviews to resolve any clashes or issues, ensuring a fully coordinated and functional infrastructure system.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs and equipment selections comply with applicable standards. This involves designing firefighting pump systems in accordance with NFPA codes and adhering to Kuwait/Gulf local authority regulations and client specifications.
  • Incorporate safety factors and quality standards in design to meet regulatory and client requirements.
  • Liaise with local authorities and regulatory bodies (such as Kuwait’s Public Authority for Housing Welfare) to obtain necessary design approvals and permits, ensuring all designs meet regional codes and pass the required authority reviews
  • Prepare documentation and presentations as needed to secure no-objection certificates (NOCs) and comply with municipal or ministry standards for water and fire protection systems.
  • Oversee the work of other mechanical design staff or sub-consultants as needed, and ensure that project milestones and deliverables for the mechanical scope are met on schedule and within quality expectations.

Required Experience

  • Relevant Industry Experience: Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in mechanical engineering design focused on wet utilities and pump station projects. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the design and implementation of pressurized water networks (potable water, firefighting, irrigation, etc.) and pumping stations for large infrastructure developments. Experience should predominantly be in design (as opposed to only site supervision) and include involvement in complex infrastructure or municipal projects.
  • Pump Station & Network Design: Demonstrable expertise in pump station design and operation, including performing hydraulic calculations for pump sizing, system head curves, pressure loss analysis, and NPSH evaluations. Candidates should have hands-on experience selecting pumps, valves, and piping materials for various applications (e.g., water distribution, fire water, irrigation) and ensuring their proper integration into the overall system.
  • Project Portfolio: Experience working on large-scale projects such as new city developments, large housing schemes, airports, or campus infrastructure is highly desirable. Prior involvement in projects like city-wide water distribution networks or major facilities (e.g., university campuses or airport utilities) is a plus. A history of successfully delivering projects from concept through detailed design to commissioning demonstrates the capability required for this role.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Strong background in working within multidisciplinary teams and coordinating across various engineering disciplines. The candidate should be adept at integrating mechanical designs with civil and electrical components and resolving design interface issues collaboratively. Experience in a BIM-driven design environment (utilizing tools like Revit MEP) for coordination and clash detection is expected.
  • Regional Experience: Experience in the Gulf region (preferably Kuwait) is an advantage, including familiarity with regional standards and procedures for utility projects. Knowledge of local authority requirements and having previously obtained approvals from agencies (such as the Public Authority for Housing Welfare or municipal engineering departments) will be highly regarded.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree: B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (e.g. Mechatronics Engineering) from a recognized and accredited university. This foundational education is required to ensure a strong grasp of engineering principles.
  • Advanced Degree (Optional): A master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Water Resources, or a related specialization is preferred. Postgraduate research or coursework focused on fluid mechanics, hydraulic engineering, or pump systems will be considered a plus, as it further signifies the candidate’s expertise in the field.

Certifications & Memberships

  • Kuwait Society of Engineers (KSE) Membership or Any local Engineer's society membership (for hiring outside Kuwait).
  • Additional training courses, professional and personal development with membership to professional groups, societies or institutes, desired.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) certification is a plus.

Essential Skills

  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles for fluid systems and thorough understanding of design standards (including NFPA codes for fire protection and other international plumbing/pipework standards).
