About the Role

  • Infrastructure Engineer, is responsible for the development and delivery of road and highway design solutions, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and local/international design codes. The role also involves developing and managing BIM models and standards, preparing detailed designs, technical documentation, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support the successful execution of road infrastructure projects. 

What you will be doing

  • Address client and consultant feedback on designs and ensure timely revisions.
  • Analyze traffic flow and geometric layouts to ensure safety, functionality, and efficiency.
  • Apply innovative engineering solutions to enhance cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and performance of road designs.
  • Collaborate with CAD and BIM teams to prepare high-quality drawings, plans, and detailed design packages.
  • Conduct design reviews to identify clashes and propose solutions for utilities, drainage systems, or other infrastructure elements.
  • Conduct pavement design and analysis based on traffic loads, soil conditions, and material specifications.
  • Develop bill of quantities (BOQs), cost estimates, and material specifications as part of the design documentation.
  • Develop horizontal and vertical alignments, profiles, cross-sections, and grading plans using software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards such as the Kuwaiti, Saudi Highway Code (SHC), AASHTO, and other international or local design codes.
  • Ensure road designs meet project requirements, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
  • Participate in progress meetings to provide updates on design deliverables and challenges.
  • Maintain proper records of design revisions, approvals, and deliverables.
  • Perform engineering calculations for superelevation, slopes, grading, and drainage compatibility.
  • Perform quality checks, design reviews, and audits to validate design accuracy and consistency.
  • Prepare and submit technical reports, design calculations, and design basis statements.
  • Prepare detailed geometric designs for roads, highways, intersections, roundabouts, and pavements.
  • Provide technical assistance during the tendering phase, including preparing clarifications and responding to queries.
  • Resolve technical conflicts and provide alternative solutions where necessary.
  • Stay updated on the latest tools, technologies, and best practices in road and highway design.
  • Support construction teams by addressing design-related queries, reviewing shop drawings, and ensuring alignment with design intent.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including drainage, utilities, and traffic engineers, to ensure design integration and alignment.

Required Experience

  • Over 5 years’ experience in a similar road design role.
  • Experience in BIM support to infrastructure teams. 
  • Experience working in GCC.
  • Experience of working with different Nationalities and associated work styles.
  • Proficient in English and Arabic, is a plus.
  • Proven track record of delivering geometric designs, pavement designs, and grading plans for highways, urban roads, and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with international standards like AASHTO, SHC, BS/EN, or equivalent.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related discipline.

Certifications & Memberships

  • AutoCAD Civil 3D Certified Professional is Preferable.
  • Additional training courses, professional and personal development with membership to professional groups, societies or institutes, desired.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification is Preferable.
  • Training or certification in pavement design tools like AASHTO Ware Pavement ME Design or equivalent software is Preferable.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Navisworks or similar road design software.
  • Strong knowledge of geometric design principles, pavement design, and traffic analysis.
  • Experience in clash detection and design integration with utilities and drainage systems.
  • Familiarity with preparing BOQs, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordination with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and deliver under tight deadlines.
