About the Role
- The BIM Coordinator, Construction Supervision, focuses on supervising the BIM team on-site to ensure the effective integration of BIM processes into the construction phase. This position serves as a key liaison between all stakeholders, including the client, PM, CM, Contractors, Sub-Contractors and design teams, ensuring smooth coordination and communication. The BIM Coordinator oversees BIM workflows for the production of contractors’ BIM models, shop drawings, supports model-based execution on site, and facilitates inspections. They manage clash detection, lead coordination meetings, and ensure that BIM deliverables meet project specifications and industry standards. They identify and resolve BIM-related challenges, ensuring alignment with construction schedules and methodologies.
What you will be doing
- Assist in reviewing and updating the client’s BIM standards, templates, and protocols based on project-specific insights and lessons learned.
- Conduct clash detection and lead BIM coordination meetings if required.
- Conduct compliance reviews of submitted models and data to verify adherence to ISO 19650, BEP, naming conventions, classification requirements, and Level of Information Need (LOIN).
- Coordinate with the contractor and design consultants to ensure compliance with the BIM Execution Plan (BEP) and Employer’s Information Requirements (EIR).
- Maintain detailed records and documentation, including clash reports, compliance checklists, meeting minutes, and BIM progress summaries.
- Models include (Building & Infra), shop drawings, 4D/5D simulations, logistics plans, and as-built models to ensure accuracy, constructability, and alignment with approved design and construction methodologies.
- Monitor the contractor’s adherence to Common Data Environment (CDE) protocols and validate that file structures, data inputs, and model updates follow agreed workflows and standards.
- Participate in coordination meetings and model review sessions, ensuring that contractor-led clash detection, issue tracking, and model federation are progressing effectively and in line with project standards.
- Provide regular reporting to project stakeholders on BIM status, risks, and compliance findings.
- Review and comment on contractor BIM deliverables including federated models.
- Review the contractor’s BIM team qualifications, providing feedback to ensure sufficient resources and clear responsibilities are in place.
- Support BIM capability assessments of project stakeholders and provide limited training or guidance to site staff in navigating and using models via tools such as Revit, Navisworks, or BIM viewers.
- Support review as-built model submissions for completeness and alignment with project handover documentation expectations.
- Support the validation of asset information deliverables (e.g. COBie, Asset Information Model) and ensure readiness for handover and facilities management.
- Track the BIM performance of the contractor and escalate risks or non-compliance issues to project leadership with documented evidence and recommendations.
- Validate integration of GIS and geospatial data with BIM models where applicable to support construction and handover accuracy.
Required Experience
- Over 5+ years’ proven on-site experience including comprehensive understanding of construction processes, methodologies, and practices.
- Experience with reality capture and Lidar survey data integration.
- Experience with 4D and 5D BIM applications.
- Experience with Document Naming Conventions and eLOD parameters.
- Experience with construction stage deliverables from tender package through to commissioning and handover.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or a related discipline. Master’s Degree is an advantage.
Certifications & Memberships
- A recognized BIM qualification is preferred.
- Additional training courses, professional and personal development with membership to professional groups, societies or institutes, desired.
- Autodesk Certificate in Revit or similar.
- RIBA / AIA or equivalent, desirable.
Essential Skills
- Software proficiency with strong knowledge in tools relevant to the project requirements, including: Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), ACC Model Coordination module, Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD, Civils3D.
- Specialised knowledge of Dynamo, Rhino, Enscape, Twinmotion, Indesign, PowerBI or similar is an advanatge.
Adept with Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud. - Can use EDMS (Electronic Document Management Systems) like Aconex for document control and project communication.
- Works to BIM Standards with expertise in ISO 19650 and associated workflows.
- Strong BIM Management & Coordination, with experience in managing BIM processes, clash detection, and model coordination.
- Hands-on experience working within a Common Data Environment (CDE) for project collaboration and data exchange.
- Familiarity with Dynamo scripting for data process automation is an advantage.
- Asset Information Management with understanding of OIR, AIR, and PIR for lifecycle and project data needs, with familiarity in COBie/IFC workflows for data exchange and compliance.
- Experience with InDesign and PowerPoint for creating compelling presentations.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools, particularly Power BI, for creating and maintaining project dashboards.
- Strong understanding of design and construction processes in large-scale projects including RIBA plan of work.
- Training & Upskilling skills, with experience in mentoring and providing BIM-related training to teams.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration, can work across disciplines to ensure coordinated BIM workflows.
- Proven ability to implement quality assurance protocols for BIM standards and project compliance.
- Familiarity with Middle East BIM standards and practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage multi-disciplinary collaboration.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to mentor and guide the contractors BIM team, fostering team growth and competency.
