About the Role
- The Low Current (ELV) Engineer will be responsible for reviewing Technical Documents, Drawings, Method of Statements, ITPs and Testing & Commissioning documents related to ELV systems, not limited to: Fire Alarm, Public Address, Structured Cabling, Security and Building Management Systems. Supervising the Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Low Current systems at the construction site. This role requires coordination with other engineering disciplines to ensure the smooth execution of the low-current systems as per the design and regulatory standards. The engineer will provide technical support, quality assurance, and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
What you will be doing
- Act as a point of contact for low current electrical-related queries and issues during construction.
- Assist in the preparation of material and equipment procurement lists and ensure timely delivery to site.
- Assist in the review of technical documentation, including shop drawings and method statements, from contractors.
- Assist with the final testing, inspection, and commissioning of installed ELV systems.
- Coordinate and ensure the proper testing and commissioning of the systems.
- Coordinate day-to-day activities related to the installation of ELV systems (CCTV, fire alarm, public address systems, access control, structured cabling, Building automation systems, etc.).
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to ensure the timely and successful implementation of low current systems.
- Identify and resolve any technical issues or challenges related to low current systems during the construction phase.
- Maintain site logs and prepare periodic reports on the status of installations and inspections.
- Monitor contractor progress and ensure the work is executed in accordance with the approved design, project timelines, technical specifications and local regulatory codes.
- Monitor health and safety regulations for the installation of ELV systems. Conduct safety inspections and address any potential safety hazards related to electrical systems.
- Prepare and review operation and maintenance manuals for close-out and handover documentation to the client.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, documentation, and progress updates on low current system installations and related activities.
- Provide technical Support and quality control. Perform quality checks on materials, workmanship, and ensure adherence to safety and electrical standards.
- Report progress, issues, and delays to the Resident Engineer and Senior Electrical Engineer.
Required Experience
- Over 10 years experience in electrical projects with construction supervision and execution or as required by related supervision agreement.
- Experience having worked with reputable consultant engineering firms, ideally in the Middle East.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
Certifications & Memberships
- Additional training courses, professional and personal development with membership to professional groups, societies or institutes, desired.
- Saudi Council of Engineers (SSE) Membership or any local engineer's society membership, i.e. CRPEP (for Bahrain).
Essential Skills
- In-depth working knowledge with technical proficiency in low current systems designing, installing, and troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and local regulations.
- Proficiency in project management software and basic office tools (MS Office, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Ability to supervise site works and effective execution.
- Use technical competence to provide advice and guidance to clients and provide a service.
- Effective coordination skills, be a team player and collaborator.
- Can communicate clearly, providing updates and reports.
- Detail minded, thorough and systematic in their approach to work.
